Darr, 88, Somerset, passed on Aug. 1, 2006 at home. Born April 15, 1918 in Somerset, he is the son of the late Edwin G. and Estella (Coleman) Darr. He is pre-ceded in death by his parents, wife Anna in 1996, and sisters Mary Jane Mostoller and Evelyn Darr. He is survived by his daughters Vicki Hillegass, married to Ron, of Manns Choice and Deanna Kennedy, married Gene, Berlin, and grandchildren Staff Sgt. Matthew Bonchi and fiancˇe Shanna Murphy, Paul Bonchi, Rob Kennedy and wife Erica, and Denise Kennedy. He is also survived by his very, very dear friend Aileen Peck, Somerset. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army in World War II. He landed with Allied Troops on Omaha Beach and was involved in the Normandy Campaign as an infantryman, winning two Purple Hearts, and was the only survivor of his platoon. He was the owner of Darr Electric in Somerset since 1945 and also worked for Bethlehem Steel in Johnstown from 1951 to 1977. He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans' Association Post 127 in Berlin. He was a member of the Roof Garden Christian Church and previously attended St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, both in Somerset. He was very devoted to his family and work, and loved to travel. He was a long time deliveryman for Meals On Wheels. Friends will be received from 2 to 9 p.m. Monday at Miller Funeral Home, Somerset.A service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Roof Garden Christian Church, Roy Worsham officiating. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the service. Interment at Somerset County Memorial Park with full military honors accorded by the Somerset County Honor Guard.
