Born in Meyersdale. Beloved husband for 57 years of Rose Marie Miller Darrah. Loving father of Gwen (Walt) Schwartz, Franklin Park; Chuck M. (Carol) Darrah, Pittsburgh; and Doug (Cindy) Darrah, McCandless. Cherished grandfather of Darrah (Justin) Muchoney, Brena Price, Chuck D. Darrah, Suzanne (Jeff) Bleich, Justin Darrah, Shaun Darrah and Jenna Darrah; great-grandfather of Madison, Ashley, Morgan and Alexie Darrah and Zachary and Madeline Bleich. Dear brother of Mary Hartle, Meyersdale; and Jo Beynon, Cumberland, Md. Charles served in the Navy from 1943 to 1946 and was stationed in the Philippines. Having received his undergraduate degree from Penn State University and his masters and doctorate degrees in education from the University of Pittsburgh, Charles served as principal at Meyersdale Area Schools, Hampton High School and Woodland High School of New York; worked in the admissions office at the University of Pittsburgh; and was Dean of Students for the Community College of Allegheny County, Boyce campus. Following his retirement from the field of education in 1968, Charles most recently worked in real estate as a broker and appraiser, Charles was one of the founders for the annual Maple Festival held in Meyersdale and was also a member of the Meyersdale American Legion and Elks Club. Friends will be received 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at H. P. Brandt Funeral Home Inc., 1032 Perry Highway, Ross Township (412-364-4444), where a service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the chapel. Entombment, Allegheny County Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to his son, Douglas Darrah, 9363 Springfield Drive, Allison Park, PA 15101, for a permanent memorial to be placed on the campus of Penn State University, State College.
