Darrah of Garrett, died Thursday morning at 12:30 a.m., from cirrhosis of the liver after a lingering illness of eighteen months. The child first became ill in July, 1945, and when she failed to respond to the treatment of local physicians, specialists from Cumberland, Baltimore and Pittsburgh were called in for consulation. The diagnosis was always the same, an incurable disease. In spite of her physical condition, Joanna started to school in September though only a pupil in the first grade, she was a favorite of the pupils in all the grades. The children were very solicitous of her condition and every one was on the alert to see that nothing happened to her on the playground. She was born in Meyersdale, July 8, 1939. In addition to her parents, she leaves a sister, Carol, her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles D. Fritz of Garrett and Mrs. A. F. Darrah of Meyersdale. Funeral services were conducted Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m. at SS. Philip and James' Catholic Church in Meyersdale by Rev. Thomas Houghton. Interment in the Catholic cemetery, under the direction of H. R. Konhaus. Meyersdale Republican, December 24, 1946
