She was born at Berkley Mills, Dec. 11, 1873, a daughter of Augustus and Elizabeth Bacon Darrah and was the last of a family of nine children. Miss Darrah made her home with her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Crowe, for many years, and since their death she continued to reside in the Crowe home on Meyers Ave., as the housekeeper and companion of her niece, Miss Dorothy Crowe. In her young womanhood Miss Darrah worked on the staff of the old Meyersdale Commercial. She was a member of SS. Philip and James Catholic Church and it was in the work of the church that her greatest interest lay. For many years she was an active member of the Ladies' Guild and of the Altar Society, and was a primary Sunday School teacher. "Miss Lizzie", as she was familiarly known, was always on hand to look after the children on the occasions of childrens' processions in the church. She also assisted with the vacation religious school of the church for a number of years. Besides being interested in children, she was a good and loyal friend to many grown folks. She will be greatly missed in the parish. Mass was held for her in SS. Philip and James' Church Thursday morning at 9 o'clock by her pastor, Rev. Father H. T. Miller, followed by burial in the Catholic Cemetery. Meyersdale Republican, February 18, 1943
