John Irvin Davis, 75 years, seven months and 17 days old, one of the best known residents of Confluence, died suddenly at 9:45 Monday morning at his home on Sterner Street. He had been ill for the past couple of weeks with an attack of grippe, but death was attributed to an acute heart attack. He was born at Addison on March 14, 1866, a son of the late Jefferson and Missouri Davis. On September 15, 1891, he was united in marriage with Ada Glass. To this union one daughter, Mary Kate, was born, death claiming her during the flu epidemic on November 18, 1918 at New London, Connecticut. Surviving, in addition to his widow, are two sisters, Mrs. Anna Rose and Mrs. Kate Sherrick of Connellsville. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary, and two brothers, Harry and James. He moved here in 1905 from Connellsville and was recently retired as an Express Messenger operating on the B. & O. Mr. and Mrs. Davis celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on September 15th. He was a member of the Council for quite a number of years and had been at the present time chairman of the street committee. He was a member of the Maccabee Lodge and a lifelong member of the Methodist church, serving as an official board member and always one of the mainstays of the church. His entire life in Confluence was spent at his present home on Sterner Street. He was well known and well respected by the many friends he leaves behind, one of the best friends a neighbor could ever hope to have, sincere in all things and active even till the end. With sincere sympathy, Confluence regrets his passing. The funeral services were held on Thursday at 2:30 at the home in charge of Rev. F. M. Kees, former pastor of the Confluence M. E. Church, assisted by Rev. S. L. Burson, present pastor. Interment was made in the Addison Cemetery. Meyersdale Republican, November 6, 1941
