Born Feb. 4, 1926, in Meyersdale, he was a son of the late John R. and Hannah (Hutzell) Day. He was also preceded in death by brothers, William, John, Charles, Glenn, Kenneth, Merle, Roland, Thomas, Benjamin and Robert; sisters, Dorothy and Hannah Day, and Martha Valerinos. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Florence M. (Reed) Day, whom he married Dec. 8, 1947; sons, George Shaw, Beltsville, Md.; Richard Shaw, Lionsville; Wayne Shaw and wife, Linda, McKeesport; Jacob Day Jr., Foxborough, Mass.; daughters, Eileen Lydick and husband, Blair, Kent, Ohio; Edna Mae Bradnick, Berlin; Barbara Keeseman and husband, Rick, Chambersburg; Virginia Suder and husband, Dan, Berlin; F. Ann Dom and husband, Shawn, New Paris; sisters, Mary Baer, Berlin; Helen Nature, Janet Twigg and Shirley Smith, all of Revenna, Ohio; 23 grandchildren and 26 great- grandchildren. Mr. Day was miner for PBS Coals. He was a member of Glad Tidings Assembly of God. He also enjoyed hunting and farming. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home Inc., 169 Clarence St., Hyndman. A funeral service will be conducted at Glad Tidings Assembly of God, Hyndman, at 2 p.m. Sunday with the Rev. Gregory Sinclair officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Allegheny Township, Somerset County. In lieu of flowers contributions may be sent to Glad Tidings Assembly of God.
