Born July 22, 1924, in Elk Garden, W.Va., the son of Benjamin and Bertie (Iser) Day. Preceded in death by parents; wife, the former Emily Mae Brant-Baker; brothers, Robert, Homer And Lewis Day; and sisters, Edna, Edith, Elma, Mary and Vivian. Survived by sister, Nell Kaley, Pittsburgh; son, Kirk Baker, Somerset and friend, Diana George, Chambersburg; daughter-in-law, Fran Baker, Lexington, S.C.; grandchildren, Lawrence David Blankenbeckler, Columbia, S.C.; Nicole Lee Blankenbeckler, Richmond, Va.; Matthew Paul Baker, Milwaukee, Wis.; and great-grandchildren, Logan and Lauren. A 1942 graduate of Somerset High School and also a graduate of the University of Rome. A U.S. Navy aviator veteran of World War II. Melvin Retired as a consulting engineer, which took him to various countries throughout the world. Also a former member of the VFW as well as the Masonic Lodge. No viewing or visitation. A memorial service will be conducted 12 p.m. May 31, at the Hauger- Zeigler Funeral Home, Somerset. Interment, St. John's Cemetery.
