Harry Deaner, aged 33, electrician at the Shriver mine, Scott's Run, W.Va., was electrocuted recently while working on a surface transformer. The body was considerably burned, and though there was a slight pulse after physicians arrived, the man showed no signs of life after artifical respiration and an inhalator had been used more than an hour. Deaner was working alone when the fatality occurred, though his plight was witnessed by two fellow workmen, Howard Huff and Francis Mitchell, and by D. W. Lewellen, of Morgantown. Investigation disclosed that Deaner was busy with some minor transformer trouble. He had "cut out" five of six switches, but apparently forgot the other. It could not be definitely determined whether he grasped the outside high tension line carrying 6600 volts, or was inside the transformer where the power had been stepped down to about 250 volts, according to County Coroner E. T. Barker, who viewed the body. Deaner's left hand was burned to the bone, and the little toe on each foot was also seared. Holes in the shoes indicated the current had gone into the ground. Deaner was a native of Bedford County, Pennsylvania, and was divorced. He had been employed as an electrician by the Shriver Coal Company for several months and was well known in Somerset County, especially around Garrett where he had relatives. He is survived by one child 5 years old; five brothers and two sisters - Calvin and Dewey Deaner, Morgantown, W.Va.; Elmer Deaner, Stoyestown, Pa.; William Deaner, Steubenville, Ohio; David Deaner, Schellburg, Pa.; Mrs. Charles Hoos, Morgantown, W.Va., and Mrs. James Howard, Harrisburg, Pa. His parents, Albert and Harriet Deaner, died some years ago. He was an ex-soldier, having served two years on the Mexican border. Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon. The body was interred in East Oak Grove Cemetery, near Morgantown. Meyersdale Republican, July 24, 1930
