Deaner, 77, of Stoystown, died Jan. 26, 1978 at Somerset Community Hospital. Born Feb 19, 1900, in Bedford County, he was a son of George P. and Maggie (Cook) Deaner. He was preceded in death by parents; wife, the former Frances Ross; brother Harry and sister Effie. He is survived by son, Charles R., married to Delores Hoffman, Stoystown; and these grandchildren: Denice, wife of Jeffery Davis; John R., married to Mandy Fyock; Debra and Donald; and these great-grandchildren, Jonathan and Jeremy Deaner; and also by twin sister, Mary Olive Deaner. From 1945 until his retirement in 1966 he operated the John H. Deaner Funeral Home, Stoystown. In these years he was affiliated with the Somerset County Funeral Directors Association, PFDA and NFDA. Upon retirement he was associated with his son in the Deaner Funeral Home. A graduate of Eckels College of Embalming, class of 1936, he operated a funeral home in Shanksville from 1936 until 1945. He was a member and deacon of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Stoystown; a charter member of Stoystown Lions Club; member of Somerset Lodge 358 F&AM, Jaffa Shrine; Harrisburg Consistory, Somerset County Shrine Club, Alma Lodge IOOF Johnstown, Stoystown Lodge IOOF, Stoystown Volunteer Fire Company, Quemahoning and Jenner Rod and Gun Club, AARP Somerset and Forbes Senior Citizens. Family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Friday and 2-4 to 7-9 p.m. Saturday in the Deaner Funeral Home, Stoystown, where services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday with the Rev. Wayne D. Sautter and the Rev. Jeffrey Welsh officiating. Interment, IOOF Cemetery, Stoystown, under the direction of the Richard E. Hauger Funeral Home.
