Deist, 60, Epharta, formerly of Jenners, was pronounced dead April 17, 2002 at home. Born April 17, 1942 in Somerset, son of James Daniel Deist and Ethel (Emert) Deist. Preceded in death by father, Dec. 9, 1983; infant son Jerome Edward Deist, Dec. 16, 1964; and a brother 1st Lt. Roy D. Deist, March 27, 1976. Survived by mother, Manheim; son Robert, married to Cynthia Dellinger, Leola; daughter Lana Deist, Manheim; grandchildren Robert Deist II and Rebecca Deist; former wife Erelene (Binion) Deist, Manheim; and sister Sandra L., widow of Richard Bowser, Manheim. Member of the 1960 class of the former JBJ Joint High School, Boswell, where he also played football. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War and employed by PennDOT. No visitation or viewing. Friends and family are invited to a graveside service at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Jenner Crossroads Cemetery, the Rev. Gregory Stauffer officiating. Graveside military rite in charge of the Somerset County Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Jenner Grace Brethren Church, Jenners, Pa., 15546.
