DEIST Reburial services for Pfc. Lee S. Deist, Meyersdale RD 2, will be held Sunday afternoon at two o'clock in Mt. Zion (Hays) Reformed Church, the Rev. F. D. Witmer officiating. Military rites will be in charge of the Berlin American Legion Post. He was killed in a motor vehicle accident near Santa Maria, Italy, Nov. 21, 1943. Lee was born July 19, 1920, in Elk Lick Township, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles H. Deist. He entered service Sept. 15, 1942, and received basic training at Ft. Knox, Ky. He was sent overseas Jan. 7, 1943 and served in the Tunisian campaign, and then was sent to Italy with Co. D, Sixth Army Infantry. He and his twin brother, Leo, had met in Italy for the first time since both had entered the service, on Nov. 7, just two weeks before Lee met his death. He is survived by his parents and the following brothers and sisters: Helen, wife of Lt. Thomas Gilkes, at home; Leo, Meyersdale; William, Pittsburgh; James, Robert, Duane and Virginia, at home, and also by his paternal grandfather, Charles Deist of Glencoe. Friends may call at the Deist home, Meyersdale RD 2, after noon, Friday, until Sunday noon when the body will be taken to Hays Reformed Church for funeral services. Interment will be made in the Mt. Lebanon Cemetery, Glencoe RD, under the direction of Johnson & Son, Berlin. Meyersdale Republican, November 18, 1948
