Dellgross, 83, of Champion, died May 23, 2002 at his home. He was born Nov. 13, 1918, in Champion, a son of the late Antonio and Sarah (Nichol) Dellgross. Preceded in death by his wife Beulah P. Shawley Dellgross in 1984, a brother Irvin Churchill and two sisters Becky White and Grace Flack. He is survived by two sons Lanny Dellgross and his wife Nancy, of Ruffsdale and Anthony Dellgross and his wife Joyce, of Champion, two daughters Susie Shaffer of Champion and her friend Leland Henry of Trent and Barbara Sipple and her husband Mike of Meyersdale, four grandchildren Jennifer and Adam Dellgross of Ruffsdale, Shawn Dellgross and his wife Michell of Champion and Terry Shaffer and his wife Rachel of Markleton, and a great-grandchild Cory Dellgross, a sister Helen Miller of Jones Mills and two sisters-in-law Ruth Churchill of Champion and Betty Shaulis of Stahlstown. He was a lifelong resident of Champion. Prior to his retirement he worked as a lumberman for Gilbert White Lumber Co. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army in both the African and European Theatre. He was the recipient of several decorations and citations including the Purple Heart. He was a member of the County Line Church of the Brethren in Champion. Family and friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday in the Clyde Brooks Funeral Home, Inc., Route 711 Melcroft, and from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday the hour of a funeral service in the funeral home with Rev. Barry Conn officiating. A committal service and interment will follow in Mt. Nebo Cemetery, Saltlick Township. Military rites will be conducted at te cemetery by the Donegal VFW Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers the family suggests the donations by given to the County Line Church of the Brethren, Champion, Pa. 15622, in memory of James F. Dellgross. Daily American May 24, 2002 [D0413]
