Dr. George Detweiler, 70, of Greencastle, Franklin County, died unexpectedly at his home, Thursday, Jan. 17, 1974. He retired in 1971 as pastor of the Greencastle Church of the Brethren. He formerly served as pastor of the Meyersdale Church of the Brethren, and also served pastorates in Somerset, Salisbury, Beachdale and Garrett. A graduate of Juniata Academy and Juniata College he also took graduate studies at Western Theological Seminary, Auburn Theological Seminary and the University of Pittsburgh. He was a trustee of Juniata College, Huntingdon, and had served on various church conference committees and district and regional boards of the church. After retiring from the active ministry, Dr. Detweiler conducted musical seminars in districts throughout the denomination. He had served as chairman of the church's mational music committee. He is survived by his widow, the former Zola Meyers of Rockwood; a brother, Maurice Detweiler, Schellsburg; and two sisters, Mrs. Louis Norrism Elgin, Ill.; and Mrs. Amelia Musser, Glendale, Calif. Funeral service was held Monday morning at the Greencastle Church of the Brethren, with the Rev. Richard Gotshall officiating. Interment in Richland Cemetery, Geistown.
