Dia, passed away at 1 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 13, at her home on Main Street, after an illness of several months of diseases incident to age. Mrs. Dia was born in Germany, Sept. 18, 1850, and came to this country during her young womanhood. She died within a few days of her eighty-first birthday. She reared with loving care a family of ten devoted children, all of whom were near her during her last days. She was a great lover of flowers, having always a beautiful flower garden in summer, and equally beautiful flowering plants growing in window boxes in the house during the winter. It was beautiful and fitting to see among the many floral tributes which surrounded her bier several beautiful bouquets plucked from her own garden which she tended as usual during the early summer before her last illness. Mrs. Dia is survived by her husband, four sons, Charles H., William F., and Elmer L., of Meyersdale, and Harry E., of Davenport, Neb., and by six daughters, Elizabeth, Minnie, Olivia and Caroline, living at the parental home, Margaret, of Cincinnati, and Ida, a teacher in the Swissvale High School. She also leaves six grandchildren, two brothers and one sister, H. J. Ebbecka of Meyersdale, Augustus Ebbecka and Mrs. Hannah Mervine, of East Stanwood, Washington. The eldest daughter, Miss Elizabeth, has for the last 30 years been the efficient assistant postmaster of Meyersdale. Miss Olivia is also a member of the postoffice staff. Harry, the son who lives in Nebraska, where he is engaged in farming, arrived here in time to be with his mother during her last days. The funeral took place Wednesday afternoon at 4 o'clock at the family home, her pastor, Rev. J. Luther Frantz, of Zion Lutheran Church, officiating. J. L. Tressler was the undertaker in charge. "Lead Kindly Light" was sung by a mail quartet composed of R. H. Philson, Paul Critchfield and C. W. and W. H. Baldwin. Meyersdale Republican, September 17, 1931
