DIEFENBACH Lewis Henry Diefenbach, 83-year-old retired blacksmith, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Carrie Beachy, Monday night, July 22, at 11:00 o'clock, from infirmities of old age. He was the son of the late Henry and Margaret Wagner Diefenbach, natives of Germany, and was born Oct. 12, 1862, at New Germany, Md. He was married on Dec. 25, 1888, to Miss Elizabeth Jane Bittinger, who passed away Sept. 11, 1923. Surviving are one son, George W. Diefenbach; one daughter, Mrs. Carrie Beachy, three grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Mr. Diefenbach resided on a farm near Grantsville till 1925, when he moved to town and purchased the home known as the "Three Oaks," on the cemetery road. He was a faithful member and attendant of the Grantsville Lutheran Church, until the present year, when ill health prevented further attendance. He was confined to his room the last seven weeks, and the past week was bedfast. Mr. Diefenbach was a strong Democrat, a good citizen in the community and one of Grantsville's oldest citizens. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 3:00 o'clock in the Lutheran Church. The pastor, Rev. George Bowersox, Jr., will officiate. Interment in the family lot in the Greenville cemetery.
