Diehl, 68, of Meyersdale RD 4, died Monday, December 2, 1985, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland, Md. He was born at Sunny Side, Rd. 1, Mt. Savage, Md., on April 13, 1917, a son of the late John Frank and Lula Ann (Michaels) Diehl. He was a retired machinist for the Cumberland Automotive Supply Co., Inc., where he has worked since 1950. He served with the U.S. Army as a staff sergeant in the Pacific Theater during WW II; was first fire chief of the Wellersburg Fire Dept., attended St. John's United Methodist Church, White Oaks. He was preceded in death by two wives, Rosalie (Witt) Diehl, died Jan. 4, 1960; Dorothy V. (Lowery) Diehl, died Jan. 14, 1964. He is survived by his wife Dorothy L. Witt Porter Diehl, one daughter, Mrs. Peggy Beckwitch, of Baltimore, Md.; three step-sons: Elwood, and Richard Porter, Meyersdale RD 4; Wayne Porter, Mt. Savage, Md.; two step-daughters: Mrs. Maxine Clarke, Pontiac, MI; Mrs. Patricia Murray, Meyersdale. Also two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, 18 step-grandchildren, 11 step-great-granchildren. Also six brothers: Vernon E. Diehl, Frostburg, Md.; John Louis Diehl and Harold Duck Diehl, Barrelville, Md.; Jay Orville Diehl, Mt. Savage, Md.; James R. Diehl, Plano, Texas; Herbert P. Diehl, Sunny Side; three sisters: Mrs. Mary A. Flanigan, and Mrs. Helena "Nellie" Hotchkiss, both of Mt. Savage, Md. and Mrs. Teresa Pendleton, Safety Harbor, FL. Friends will be received Wednesday 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Hyndman. Services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Charles Harper and Rev. Ray E. Gnagey officiating. Interment, Cooks' Cemetery, Wellersburg. The Republic, December 5, 1985 [D0590]
