Diehl, 73, of Atlantic City, N.J., died Friday, Sept. 19, 1997, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland, Md. Born Aug. 5, 1924, at West Salisbury, he was a son of the late Henry C. and Eva C. (Cochrane) Diehl. Mr. Diehl was a graduate of Johns Hopkins Hospital School of X-Ray Technicians, was an X-ray therapist and manager of the emergency room X-ray department at Atlantic City Medical Center. A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he was a member of the American Legion Post 1000, Trenton, N.J. He was a Methodist by faith. Mr. Diehl is survived by a brother, George E. Diehl of El Paso, Texas; two sisters: Ruth Ansel, Cumberland, Md.; and Jean Rembold of Springs; a sister-in-law, Eris Diehl of Kampsville, Ill.; an uncle, George "Joe" Diehl of Salisbury; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends were received at Newman Funeral Home, Inc., Salisbury, on Sept. 23. Services were conducted at the funeral home the same day, with the Rev. Steven Heatwold officating.
