(Pepper) 05/09/07 Daily American Harry E. "Pepper" Diest, 82, Berlin, died May 8, 2007, at home. Born March 3, 1925, in Berlin, the son of Harry and Mildred (McKenzie) Deist. Preceded in death by parents; brother, Hubert; and a son, Craig. Survived by wife of 56 years, the former Helen Engle; and a son, Jody, Berlin. Brother of Charles, Shirley Rotnem, Ruth Kelly and Karen Norris. He is a World War II Army veteran. Employed as Callens Bread route salesman and owner/operator of Dairy Queen in La Vale, Md., and Blairsville. A member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Roxbury, and formerly of Mountain United Church of Christ, where he served as a deacon. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Deaner Funeral Home, Berlin, where a service will be held 11 a.m. Friday. The Rev. Owen Preston officiating.
