All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/somerset/ ________________________________________________ MERLE DEWEY DIVELEY Merle Dewey Diveley, expert motor vehicle mechanic and garage operator in Meyersdale for many years died in a Pittsburgh hospital at 3 o'clock, Wednesday morning of a chronic illness from which he had suffered for a long while. He formerly operated a garage in partnership with Vincent Saylor; later worked as a mechanic for the local Ford Motor Co., and the last few years operated a garage of his own on Grant Street. He was an industrious and exemplary citizen and worked at his trade until a few months ago when he entered a Pittsburgh hospital for rest and medical treatment. He was born near Glencoe, Sept. 8, 1898, the son of Jonas and the late Mary (Mishler) Diveley. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Gladys (Njos) Diveley, his step-mother, Mrs. Catherine (Keidel) Diveley, and six children - Victor, serving in the U.S. Navy; Mrs. Esther Maust, Mrs. Mary Pritts, Mrs. William Bungard, Merle Dale, and Helen Diveley, the last two still living in the parental home, and two grandchildren. Surviving also are these brothers and sisters: Spurgeon Diveley, Sand Patch, R.D.; Homer and Victor Diveley, Biglerville; Mrs. Maud Ludy and Mrs. Mabel Smith, Glencoe; Mrs. Hazel Smith, Jenners; and Mrs. Ruby Landis, Macdonaldton. Funeral services will be held at the family home on Large Street at 2:30 Saturday afternoon, Rev. Thomas R. Thomas, pastor of the Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in Union Cemetery under the direction of H. R. Konhaus. The body may be viewed at the Konhaus Chapel until Saturday morning. Meyersdale Republican, February 17, 1944
