Born Aug. 27, 1920, in Wellersburg, a son of the late George W. and Mary M. (Suder) Dom. Preceded in death by Leora E. (Weimer) Dom, his wife of 64 years whom he married Feb. 22,1941; four brothers , Ray E. Dom, J. Curtis Dom , Robert I. Dom , Wilbert H. Dom, Sr.; and a sister, Anna M. Knippenberg. Surviving are sons, John A. Dom Sr. and wife Dottie, Meyersdale, Richard L. Dom and wife Suzi, Meyersdale; daughters, Patricia A. Perkins and husband Ray, Hyndman, Colleen R. Gaukstad and husband Neil, Phoenix, Ariz.; a brother, George F. Dom of Hagerstown, Md.; a sister, Grace A. Cook of Hyndman; nine grandchildren, four great- grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Dom worked for B&O, Chessie and CSX Railroad for 39 years. He started at the B&O Rolling Mill in Cumberland and worked in various positions until transferred to Raceland, Ky., as a foreman of the car building shop. He was transferred back to Cumberland and retired as a Chessie Safety Inspector in 1980. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in World War II in the 1st Calvary Division. He served in the Philippines and Japan. A lifetime member of the Grace Independent Bible Church, Meyersdale, where he was a church elder, served as deacon and superintendent of the Sunday school. He also was the president of the Grace Cemetery Association White Oak Inc. and a member of the BPOE Elks in Meyersdale. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, 169 Clarence Street, Hyndman, where funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Tom Horner officiating. Interment will follow at White Oak Cemetery, Meyersdale. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grace Independent Bible Church, Meyersdale, Pa.
