Born July 26, 1925, in Patterson Creek, W.Va., she was the daughter of Magdeline Lena (Logsdon) Twigg, Patterson Creek, and the late Melvin Eugene Twigg. She was preceded in death by one daughter. She was the former owner of Dowden's Restaurant in Furnace Acres and a 1943 graduate of Fort Ashby High School. Surviving in addition to her mother are two sons, James W. Dowden Jr., Cumberland, Md.; and Eric S. Dowden, Fort Ashby, WV; three daughters, Mrs. Gale A. Graham, Fredericksburg, Va.; Mrs. Valerie J. Griese, Cumberland, Md.; and Mrs. Angela F. Grady, Ridgeley, WV; one brother, Douglas Twigg, Cumberland, Md.; four sisters, Mrs. Reba McGuire, Cumberland, Md.; Mrs. Evangeline "Penny" Ratcliff, Patterson Creek; Mrs. Wilma Broll, Baltimore, Md.; and Mrs. Dorothy Miller, Grantsville, Md.; and 15 grandchildren. Friends were received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home. Services were conducted Monday at noon at Graceland Baptist Church, Short Gap, WV; by the Rev. Oscar E. Ohler Sr. Interment, Fort Ashby Cemetery. Pallbearers were Justin Ratcliff, Dwayne Shrader, Gunnar Henderson, Charles Messick, Kraig Graham and Shane Grady. The Republic, September 7, 1989 [D0858]
