    Amanda Ellen Dowie, 99, of Somerset RD 2, formerly of Clairton, died Aug.
  9, 1994, at Somerset Patriot Manor.  Born Aug. 24, 1894, in Summit Township,
  the daughter of the late Nelson and Mary (Engle) Burkholder.  Preceded in
  death by husband, Robert Russell Dowie, who died June 10, 1994, to whom she
  had been married 74 years; also 2 brothers, Harry and Charles Burkholder,
  and 3 sisters: Edith Johnson, Missoura Cosgrove and Ida Stevanus.  Survived
  by a son, Robert J. Dowie, married to the former Anna Eggers of Somerset RD
  2; also three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.  Charter member of
  the Lutheran Church of the Holy Spirit of Clairton.  Also member of the
  Trinity Lutheran Church of Somerset and Somerset Garden Club.  Past matron
  of Order of Eastern Star of Clairton.  Friends will be received from 2 to 4
  and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Hauger-Ziegler Funeral Home, where service
  will be be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, with the Rev. Robert L. Hoover Jr. and
  the Rev. Charles L. Lady officiating.  Interment, Somerset County Memorial
  Park.  Contributions may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church, 918 Tayman
  Ave., Somerset, Pa. 15501.
