Born July 30, 1898, in Gateshead, England. Son of the late Peter and Margaret (Harvey) Dowie. Also preceded in death by two sisters, Annie Trelogan and Jane MacDonald, and a brother, Harry E. Dowie. Survived by wife, the former Amanda Ellen Burkholder, to whom he was married for 74 years; son Robert J. Dowie of Somerset RD 2; three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren. Retired superintendent of safety for the Clairton Works of U.S. Steel Corp., retiring in 1958. U.S. Army veteran of World War I, serving with the 319th Infantry in France. He was a charter member of the Lutheran Church of the Holy Spirit of Clairton and presently a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Somerset. He was a 74-year member of the American Legion and presently a member of Somerset Post 181 and a 73-year member of the Wilson Lodge F&AM. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home, Somerset, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday. The Revs. Robert L. Hoover Jr. and Charles L.
