Mr. Duecker was a carpenter by trade. He also owned a fine farm in Summit Township, which he farmed for many years, and sold about ten years ago to his son-in-law, Irvin Gnagey, one of the hustling farmers of Summit Township. After selling his farm, he purchased a fine property at the south end of Garrett and moved into it. He was an honest hard-working man and provided well for his family which consisted of his wife, three sons and two daughters. Several years ago his sight became impaired and he could see only at short distances. This prevented him from doing much work, altho he was one who enjoyed outdoor life and good company. He led a clean life and was a good, true, lovable husband and father. Mr. Duecker will be sadly missed in his home, in town and the whole community, as he was widely known. He was married to Mary, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Burkholder, who died many years ago. Three sons and two daughters survive, besides his wife. The sons are Allen, William and Webster, of Garrett. The daughters are Lillian, wife of Harry Stevanus, living near St. Paul, Elk Lick Township, and Cora, wife of Irvin Gnagey of Summit Township. Mr. Duecker was 73 years, 11 months and 12 days old. He was a true and faithful member of the Center Lutheran Church, near Garrett, where interment was made on Saturday afternoon at 2:30. Rev. Pyle of Garrett conducted the services and spoke kind words in behalf of the good works and life of this beloved one. Meyersdale Republican, September 22, 1932
