He was born in Eckhart, he was a son of the late Joseph Durkin and Julia (Sullivan) Durkin. His wife, Edith (Willison) Durkin, preceded him in death. An employee of the service department of the Celanese plant for 40 years, he was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Frostburg, Md.; Celanese Local 1874, Textile Workers Union of America, and the Eckhart Square Circle Club. He is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Julia Marie Cooper, Madison, Ohio; Mrs. Catherine Vizza, Eckhart; and Mrs. Coletta Emerick, Wellersburg; two brothers, William Durkin, Eckhart, and Michael Durkin, Chardton, Ohio; and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends were received at the Durst Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Michael's Church with Father John Reinsfelder officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Pallbearers were Gary Schurg, Neil Emerick, Thomas Emerick, Dave Michaels, Gene Harden and Earl Ryan. The Republic, July 1, 1982 [D1034]
