He was born Dec. 25, 1890, in Jennings, Md. and was the son of the late Harvey and Lydia (Bittinger) Durst. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Belle (Broadwater) Durst, in 1970. He was a retired coal miner and farmer and was a member of the Laughlin Church of the Brethren. Surviving are two daughters, Gladys Marie Guthrie, Grantsville, Md.; and Florence Ellen Shuck, Meyersdale; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Friends were received at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville. Services were conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Laughlin Church of the Brethren by the Rev. Joseph Lewis. Interment, Durst Cemetery.
