Durst, 90, prominant in business circles in Frostburg, died at 4 a.m., Saturday, in Memorial Hospital, Cumberland, as the result of complications resulting from injuries sustained in a fall at his home on East Main Street, April 20. He was admitted to the hospital, two days later. Mr. Durst founded the Frostburg Furniture and Undertaking Company in 1904. He was born in Garrett County, August 24, 1857, a son of the late Jeremiah and Elizabeth Beachy Durst. His parents were pioneer residents of Garrett County. He went to Frostburg in 1889 to work as a cabinet maker for the late C. F. Nickel and was married to Sally Wright Layman on December 28, 1892. Mr. Durst was a member of the Council of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and one of the first members of the Knights of Pythias Lodge in Frostburg. Surviving are Mrs. Durst; two sons, Joseph R. Durst and John L. Durst, both of Frostburg, and three daughters, Mrs. William A. Gunter, Cumberland, and Mrs. Benjamin Thomas and Miss Anne E. Durst, both of Frostburg. Seven grandchildren and one great grandchild also survive. Funeral services were conducted Monday at 2:30 p.m. by the Rev. Walter Simons, Petersburg, Va., formerly pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Frostburg. Interment was made in Allegany Cemetery. Meyersdale Republican, May 27, 1948
