DURST May 6, 1938 November 9, 2004 Roy E. Durst, 66, of Salisbury, died Tuesday, November 9, 2004, in Donegal Township, on way home from Shady Side Hospital, Pittsburgh. Born May 6, 1938, in Springs, he was the son of the late William H. and Lettie (Jennings) Durst. He was also preceded in death by two brothers: Lester and Olen Durst; sister-in-law, Colleen Durst; brother-in-law, Ellis Beitzel; two nephews: James Beitzel and Alex Durst and niece, Judith (Durst) Melton. He is survived by his loving wife and caregiver, Mary A. (Housel) Durst, whom he married March 31, 1961. Also survived by one son, Martin A. Durst and wife, Brenda, Salisbury; one daughter, Kimberly S. Haines and friend, Brian Hoover, Meyersdale; one granddaughter, Beth (Durst) Finzel and husband, Howard, Grantsville, Md.; two grandsons: Andrew Durst and Shawn Haines, both of Salisbury; one great-granddaughter, Aaliyah Durst; two step-great-grandsons: Ryan and Adam Finzel, all of Grantsville; two sisters: Mary Alice Beitzel, Salisbury; Bettie M. Moser and husband, Robert, Severna Park, Md.; one brother, Robert Durst and wife, Pauline, Salisbury; one sister-in-law, Julia Durst, Salisbury; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was a lifelong member of Springs Mennonite Church where he served several different positions and committees through the years. He owned and operated D & D Upholstery in Salisbury for 27 years. Through the years he met many lovely people and a lot were just acquaintances but many became good friends. He was also civic minded, serving nine years on the Salisbury Borough Council and later six years as Mayor of Salisbury. Roy was a veteran of the U. S. Army and was a member of Walker-Harris Post 459, American Legion, Salisbury. Friends were received at the Newman Funeral Home, Inc., Salisbury, Thursday. Services were conducted at Springs Mennonite Church at 11 a.m. Friday with the Rev. Steven Heatwole officiating. Friends could call at the church one hour prior to the services. Interment, Salisbury Cemetery. Military graveside services were accorded by the American Legion. Expressions of sympathy may be directed to Springs Mennonite Church or the Salisbury Area Ambulance Association.
