Durst, a well-known retired Elk Lick Township farmer, died at an early hour, Feb. 6, 1943, at the age of 81 years, 9 months and 25 days. The direct cause of his death was appoplexy; but he had been suffering for some months from infirmities incident to old age. He was a son of Phenos and Lucinda Schrock Durst and the home wherein he died was but a short distance from the old homestead where he was born, April 11, 1861, only a very short distance north of the Mason and Dixon Line, and resided in that neighborhood all of his life. He is survived by these children: Nettie, wife of Lewis Keefer, and Ernest, Victor, Lawrence and Francis Durst. He is also survived by one brother, Charles Durst. The surviving relatives mentioned all live in the same neighborhood, and only a short distance from each other. The deceased was a very kindly disposed person, a good neighbor, and a steadfast member of the Evangelical and Reformed Church. The funeral services were held at the Durst home, Monday afternoon, at 2:30 o'clock. His pastor, Rev. Ira S. Monn, was the officiating clergyman. The burial arrangements were in charge of mortician Stanley M. Thomas of Salisbury, and interment was in the Salisbury I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Meyersdale Republican, February 11, 1943
