Born April 19, 1904, in Gilbert, WVa., son of Rush and Mary Ellen (White) Elkins. He was preceded in death by parents and two brothers. He is survived by wife, former Carrie Mundy; daughter, Mrs. Dale (Barbara) Jones, Richmond, Va.; two granddaughters and a great-granddaughter. He was a brother of: Mrs. Mildred Walls, Beckley, WVa.; Mrs. Charlotte Olson, Elizabethton, Tenn.; Dwight, Wharncliff, WVa.; Walter, Colcord, WVa.; and Malcolm, Beckley, WVa. He atteneded Morris Harvey College and Marshall College; was school principal in WV in early years. Came to PA as federal mine inspector before retiring in 1966. He served briefly as Berlin mayor and Somerset County tax assessor. He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Berlin; Boone Lodge No. 162 F & AM, Whitesville, WVa.; Beni Kedem Shrine Temple, Charleston, WVa.; Hebron Royal Arch Chapter No. 272, Meyersdale; and IOOF Lodge, Berlin. Friends were received at Johnson-Kuhlman Funeral Home, where services were held with the Rev. Carl W. Schwarm, officiating. Interment, IOOF Cemetery. The Republic, Dec. 29, 1983 [E0129]
