Ray Ellis, DDS, 67, of Somerset, died Aug. 6, 1988 in the Shadyside Hospital, Pittsburgh. Born March 2, 1921 in Berlin, NH, son of the late Spurgeon T and Annie A. (Lister) Ellis. Preceded by two sisters: M. Elaine Drake and Gladys Lane. Survived by his wife, the former Marjorie M. Meyers; and these children; Mrs. Steven (Andrea) Kratzer, Lewisburg; Dr. F. Ray (Skeets) Ellis Jr., Somerset RD 2; Jonathan L., at home; two grandchildren, Allison Kratzer and Derek Ray Ellis. Brother of : Earl E. Ellis, Oakhurst, NJ; and Mrs. Leo (Helen) Anctil, Foxfire Village, NC. Was graduated in: 1938 Berlin New Hampshire High School; 1939 Hebron Academy, Hebron, Maine; 1947 University of New Hampshire; 1949 University of Pittsburgh; 1953 University of PIttsburgh School of Dental Medicine. Practiced dentistry in Somerset for 35 years and for the past seven years with his son as Ellis and Ellis Dental Associates. As a captain and B26 Bomber pilot with the US Army Air Corps during WWII, he flew 67 bombing missions in the European Theatre. Member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, the American, Pennsylvania, and Somerset County Dental Associations; past president of the Somerset Aero Club and past president of the Somerset Kiwanis Club, staff member of Somerset Community Hospital. Member of the Laurel Mountain Ski Patrol. An avid skier, he was on the University of New Hampshire Ski Team and was an alternate for the 1944 Olympics team. Friends at 6:30 - 9 pm Monday (today) in the Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home. Graveside service and interment will be held in Somerset County Memorial Park at 11 am on Tuesday with Pastor H.
