Born July 26, 1935 in Fairhope, the daughter of the late George and Hulda (Richardson) Merkel. Also preceded in death by five brothers, Lee, Don, Daris, Dewey and, Harry Merkel, and four sisters, Doris and Beverly Merkel, Jean Deitz and Helen Nair. Survived by: Vernon C. Emerick, her husband of 50 years, whom she married Sept. 15, 1952; four daughters: Linda K. and husband Roy W. Kennell, Hyndman, Debra A. and husband John I. Weimer, Berlin, Nancy L. and husband Lenny Emerick, Hyndman, and Kathy S. and husband Henry Logsdon, Hyndman; one brother, Victor Merkel, Cumberland, Md.; two sisters Alma Custer and Betty Huffman, both of Hyndman; 10 grandchildren: Ammie, Sherry and Jeremiah Weimer, Crissy and Aaron Emerick, Paul and Nathan Kennell, and Misty, Amanda and Shawn Logsdon; five great-grandchildren: Nathanial and Shainna McKenzie, Kyle Keller, Katlyn Ludy and Shauntae Logsdon; and numerous special nieces and nephews. Also by Robert Custer and Donna Landis, whose services to Mrs. Emerick and her family have meant more than words can tell. Mrs. Emerick, a homemaker, was a devoted wife and mother. She was a longtime school van driver. She served Southampton Township, Somerset County as an election official for a number of years. She enjoyed hunting, fishing, sewing, crafts and cross-stitch. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Harvey H Zeigler Funeral Home, 169 Clarence Street. Hyndman. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, at the Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ, Kennels Mill Road, Hyndman. The Rev. Henry Crissinger officiating.
