Engle, 70, of Arbutus, Md., died Tuesday, May 20, 1975, in St. Agnes Hospital. Born in Salisbury, he was a son of the late Irvin J. and Cora (Newman) Engle. He was a retired maintenance supervisor and former horse van driver. He went to the Baltimore area in 1934 where he began work as a horse van driver for Sagamore Farms. His work required extensive travel throughout the country. He was also caretaker of the Vanderbilt home near the farm for several years. In 1951 he joined the Shipley Transfer Company, at Curtis Bay, as a maintenance supervisor, and retired in 1973. Surviving are his wife, the former Helen Runkles; a son, W. Richard Engle, of Claysville, Pa.; a daughter, Mrs. Dorothy M. James, of Mt. Union, Pa.; five grandchildren; two brothers, Charles (Rip) Engle, of State College, Pa.; and Paul T. Engle of State College; and a sister, Mrs. Isabelle Bangs of Ithaca, N.Y. Funeral service was held in Maryland. Meyersdale Republican, June 19, 1975 [E316]
