Horne Engle, wife of the late William Engle, died Thursday morning, April 24, at her residence, 1430 Crittenden Street, Washington, D.C., after a long illness. Mrs. Engle was one of six children born to George W. and Mary M. (Black) Horne of Buffalo Mills, Pa. She is survived by three daughters - Mrs. Mary E. Hall, Miss Laura C. Engle and Mrs. Frank B. McGinness, all of Washington, D.C. - and by one brother, John W. Horne, of Buffalo Mills, Pa. She was possessed of rare intellectual ability and was very fond of good literature, both poetry and prose. Early in their lives she inspired her children with a love of the same. In her early childhood she memorized portions of God's Holy Word and all through her long life these gems proved a comfort and a stay in time of need. She was an ideal Christian character, a loving and affectionate wife and mother, and a considerate friend. She was ready to give a helping hand to those in need and practiced Christianity in all its purity and sweetness. It can be truly said of her: "Her price was far above rubies." Funeral services were held in the Hine's Funeral Home, Saturday afternoon at 3:30, with her pastor, Rev. H. W. Burgas, of Hamline Methodist Church, officiating. Burial was at Berlin, Pa., in the I.O.O.F. cemetery, in charge of Johnson & Son, Berlin morticians. Think of stepping on shore, And finding it Heaven; Of taking hold of a hand, And finding it God's hand; Of breathing a new air, And finding it celestial air; Of feeling invigorated, And finding it immortality! Written by Mrs. Mary E. Hall, in memory of her loving mother. Meyersdale Republican, May 1, 1941
