Engle, died Jan. 21, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Elmer Vought, located on the "Flog Hill" farm at Boynton, at the age of 90 years, 4 months and 14 days. She was born Sept. 5, 1853, in Elk Lick Township on the farm known as the Samuel Baker farm. She was the mother of 11 children, six of whom preceded her in death. The surviving children are: Mrs. Sadie Wahl, Meyersdale, R.D. 3; Mrs. Carrie Vought and Mrs. Elmer Menhorn, Boynton; Lester Engle, Salisbury, R.D. 1, and Ray E. Engle, Berlin, R.D. 1. She is also survived by 40 grandchildren, 41 great- grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She knew many years of hard labor, for she helped her husband operate their small farm with the old hand implements, such as the spike harrow, the cradle, the scythe and the wash-board. She took part also in the labor of stacking the hay, grain and straw, as for many years they had only a stable for the stock. This couple spent all their married life on this small homestead, providing for their family in a primitive way, and maintaining for them a hospitable and happy home for which their children honored them. Living to the age of 4 score and 10 years, as Mrs. Engle did, required a strong constitution and a courageous soul. She was a member of the Evangelical and Reformed Church of Salisbury. As was her desire, her body was taken to the old homestead, which is now owned by her son, Lester, where short services were conducted on Monday afternoon at 1:30, after which her body was taken to St. Paul's Reformed Church for funeral services, Rev. Ira S. Monn, officiating. Interment was made in the St. Paul cemetery. Stanley Thomas, Salisbury mortician, had charge of funeral arrangements. The pallbearers were Hubert Wahl, Clyde Wahl, Roy Vought, Woodrow Engle, Sam Vought and Elmer Menhorn. Meyersdale Republican, January 27, 1944
