"Alec" 05/05/07 Daily American Elwood B. "Alec" Engleka, 77, Alamogordo, N.M., died April 25, 2007, at Sierra Medical Center in El Paso. He was born Sept. 2, 1929, in Somerset County, a son of the late Clarence Homer and Viola (Ackerman) Engleka. He is preceded in death by his parents; a son, Darel A. Engleka; brothers, Clarence, Carl, Charles and Warren Engleka; and sister, Helen Miller. Survived by wife of 55 years, Rene Engleka; a daughter, Darlene Davis and her, husband Marc, Alamogordo; a daughter-in-law, Cheryl Bankhead-Engleka, Burlson, Texas; five grandchildren, Mical Engleka, Cybil Engleka Harvey and her husband, Steven, and Sean Robert Engleka, all of Burleson; Jessi Davis, Scottsdale, Ariz., and James Davis of Alamogordo; one great-grandchild, Haley Harvey, Burleson; a brother, Merle Engleka, Somerset; and sisters, Elizabeth Knopsnyder and Grace Spangler, both of Rockwood. He graduated from Rockwood High School and enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1947, transferred to the Air Force, and served more than 28 years, retiring in 1976 as a master sergeant. He was a member of the Church of Christ, the American Legion, and the VFW in Alamogordo. A memorial service was conducted Monday, April 30, with military honors provided by the Holloman Air Force Guard. Cremation and services under the direction of the Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home in Alamogordo. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association. *[NOTE: According to his daughter Darlene, he retired with the rank of Senior Master Sergeant.]
