Engleka, 79 of Fairhope went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Dec. 28, 1999 at his home after a lengthy illness. He was born on Thursday, Nov. 25, 1920 in MacDonaldton, a son of William and Martha Frahlich Engleka Preceded in death by parents, brothers: Spahn and Reon, a sister, Ruth. He is survived by his devoted, loving wife of 52 years, Pearl Marie Coughenour Engleka whom he married on Oct. 23, 1947. Also surviving is a loving daughter, Linda Kay Engleka-Rizak and husband Walter of Central City; a step-daughter Karen Cassell and husband Harvey of Danville, Va.; whom he raised and loved as his own daughter; also a step-daughter Donna Coleman of Danville, Va.; granddaughter Nadine Hillegass Newcomer and husband Robert and great-grandchildren Natosha, Brittany, Joel, and and Moriah of McClellandtown; grandson, Ricky A. Hillegass and great-grandchildren, Brandie, Bethany, Katelynne, and Cassandra of Fairhope. Ricky cared for his grandfather in his final days on earth. Also surviving are granddaughters Tina Cassell Will and husband Cole and great-grandchildren Ashley and Aaron of Pooler, Ga.; Angela Cassell of Danville, Va.; a grandson Ralph W. Coleman and wife Megan and great-grandchildren Jacob of Sterling, Va.; a brother Eugene W. Engleka and wife Marie of Berlin, and a sister Mary Hostetler and husband Dwight of Friedens. Also several nieces and nephews. Paul was a member of the Bible Gospel Church in Hyndman. Member of the Berlin Area Historical Society. Lifetime member of VFW Post 7295, Berlin. He served his country with pride in the 318th Infantry 80th Division as a second lieutenant in the Army during WWII from 1942-1946. He was awarded two purple hearts during WWII for wounds received in combat, also being honored with the Gold Oak Leaf Cluster. He received the Combat, Infantryman Badgc, Bronze Service Star for Northern France, Bronze Service Star for Germany, Good Conduct Medal, WW II Victory Medal, and American Campaign Medal. Retired Secretary-Treasurer of Allegheny Township for 29 years. Retired secretary-treasurer of Fairhope Township for 28 years. Paul was the secretary of Mt. Zion Cemetery Association. He cofounded the Allegheny Township Veterans Memorial Association of which he became the secretary-treasurer. Paul was a longtime farmer and a sawyer. He owned and operated his own sawmill since 1942. He was self-employed throughout his life. He enjoyed taking care of his swine, reading, and contributing his time for community service. Paul L. Engleka was thankful for a happy and fruitful life. He will be remembered always for his beautiful smile and his love and devotion to his family. Family will receive friends from 2-p.m. Thursday at Deaner Funeral tome, Berlin. Viewing from 1 p.m. until time of service at 2 p.m. Friday at the Bible Gospel Church, Hyndman with the Revs. Jay eydig and Chauncey J. Ickes. Interment, Mt. Zion Cemetery.
