John Faidley, the father of the deceased, was born December 28, 1788, and died March 20 1833 and was the oldest son of eleven children of Adam and Mary Faidley: John Faidley served in the war of 1812 in the infantry under Capt Peter Lane and in what was known as a rifle company under Capt Casper Keller, and took part in the engagements at Buffalo and Black Rock. Barbara Kreider Faidley Shultz mother of the deceased, was born March 5th 1793 and died in August 1869, being interred in Turkeyfoot, she later having married Peter Shultz, father of the late Daniel Shultz, of town. Adam Faidley, the grandfather of the deceased, emigrated from England and was born March 5th 1765 and died February 15th 1828. The father, John and grandparents Adam and Mary are interred in the cemetery just east of Salisbury. The deceased is survived by two brothers and one sister, Alexander of Turkeyfoot, who is nearly 84 years old, Delilah Younkin also of Turkeyfoot, who is 80 and John of Wakefield Kansas, who is 77 years of age. Elijah Faidley was united in marriage to Elizabeth Gumbert, May 10, 1840 and to this marriage were born nine children: John E. of Centralia, WA, William E. of Keener KS, Samuel E. of Burr Oak, KS, Peter who met death by accident at the age of 7, Barbara Bittner, who died at the age of 26 at Colfax, IA, Daniel E. of Maxwell, IA, Hiram E. of Burr Oak KS, Catharine Eichorn, of Summit, IL and Harvey T. of St Louis MO. The deceased was an adherent of the old Whig party and when that party passed out of existence, he became a Republican. He was a good citizen - a true and honored man in every relation of life and deserved and had the respect of his fellow citizens. All his life was spent near Meyersdale with the exception of nine years after his wife died that he spent in the west with his children. On May 1st of the present year he returned to his old home to be among the people with whom he lived almost a century to spend his remaining days. He was a member of the German Baptist Brethren church for over seventy years and a staunch believer in its principles and doctrines and found great pleasure in the services and public worship. He served in the capacity of deacon for many years and had an ardent love for the Master's service removed what might be otherwise called difficulties in rural districts and at the time of his death was the oldest member in point of service in the county. He was laid to rest in the Hostetler cemetery in Greenville, beside his wife who preceded him fifteen years. from a newspaper article pasted in the W. H. Welflry scrap book in the Spring Museum in Spring, PA (The reference to John being the oldest child of Adam and Mary is wrong. He is the oldest child but he came from Adam's first marriage to Eve Yowler.) 2 Filename is FAIDLEYE. Information pertains to Elijah Faidley.
