The unfortunate youth was a son of Mr. and Mrs. William Fate, of Akron, and grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Fate of Boynton. The boy's father grew to manhood in that village, and later located in Akron. Clarence Henry, the drowned boy, was very popular among his schoolmates, friends and neighbors of the family, and was a bright lad, well liked by all who knew him, including a number of relatives and others in Salisbury and Boynton. The accident which cost him his life, occurred Thursday afternoon of last week, while he and a schoolmate were taking their first swim of the season in one of the Portage Lakes near Akron. It was the first drowning in that lake this year, but the sixth for this year in the entire Akron district, and occurred while the boy was swimming across a deep narrow channel, near the bridge on the South Main Street extension of Akron. When his companion, Jimmy Kline, saw him sink, he promptly called for help, and also ran to Sandy Beach Park, a short distance away, to procure help, and some time later divers brought up the drowned youth's body. Surviving him are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Fate, his sister, Vietta, and his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Alice Lowery, all of Akron, and his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Fate, of Boynton, Pa. Funeral services were held at the home of the parents, 816 Johnston Street, last Sunday at 2:30 p.m., conducted by Rev. Carl Burnham, with interment in Memorial Park Cemetery. Relatives from Salisbury who attended the funeral were Mrs. Lottie Fate, aunt of the deceased, also Miss Ruby Fate, Charles Fate and family, his cousins. Another son of Mr. and Mrs. William Fate, William, Jr., lost his life in a tragic way, through a gunshot wound, about seven years ago, without any of the family knowing how it happened, as they were absent from home at the time.
