Born Feb. 23, 1918 in New Jersey, son of the late Michael and Mary (Dubil) Ferens. Also preceded in death by brothers, George and Charlie "Skinny," sisters Mary and Josephine "Doats" Kitt. Survived by wife of 47 years, the former Anna Katchmeric and stepson, Alfred Katchmeric and wife Linda, Wayne, Mich.; also step grandchildren, Brian Katchmeric, Florida, Paul Katchmeric and wife Marlett, Mich., and Cheryl Katchmeric; and great step grandchildren, Matthew and Catherine. Brother-in-law of Robert Kitt, Mich., uncle to Chuckie and Marilyn, Detroit, Mich. Alabam was a veteran of World War II, member of UMWA, SNPJ lodge 190, American Legion Post 137, lifetime member of the Cambria County Beagle Club and VFW Post 4795, Windber. Also member of St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, Windber, where liturgy of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Father Gregory Michalisin, pastor. Commital parish cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Hugh W. Marron Funeral Home, corner of 9th Street and Somerset Avenue, Windber, where panachida will be held at 7:30 p.m. Donations may be directed to Regional Hospice at Windber in memory of Steve.
