Ferko, 71, Central City, died Sept. 2, 1997, at Windber Hospital. Born July 28, 1926, in Shade Township, the son of John and Susan (Gallo) Ferko. Preceded in death by parents; brother, John, and sisters: Mary and Ann. Survived by his wife of 48 years, the former Helen Shaffer, and these children: George W., married to the former Vivian Barwatt, Central City; Douglas, and his fiancee Abbie Coyle, New Holland; Susan, Salix, and Lori, wife of Dennis Mehora, Vinco; also survived by grandchildren: William, Jeffrey and Kelsey. Brother of Michael, Andrew, Paul, Margaret Milavec and Victor Recicar. U.S. Navy veteran World War II. Past Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 121. President of the Jednota Branch 732. Former employee of Reitz Coal Co. 35-year member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 354. Friends will be received from 7-9 p.m. Thursday and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at the Mulcahy Funeral Home, Central City, where vigil service will be recited at 8 p.m. Friday. Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Interment, parish cemetery. Graveside military rites by Central City VFW and American Legion posts.
