    Helen I. Ferko, 76, Central City, died Jan. 11, 2003, at Windber 
  Medical Center.  Born Dec. 16, 1926 in New Paris, the daughter of Ross E. 
  and Fannie P. (Rose) Shaffer.  Preceded in death by parents, husband, 
  George E., sisters, Ann Dermer and Betty Blackmar and brother, Galen.  
  Survived by children: George W., married to the former Vivian Barwatt, 
  Central City, Douglas, married to the former Abbie Goldinger, Lititz, 
  Susan, Brandon, Fla., and Lori, wife of Dennis Mehora, Johnstown; 
  grandchildren: William and wife Sally, Jeffrey and fiancee Trina and
  Kelsey.  
  Also survived by a brother Harry, New Paris.  Friends will be received 
  from 2 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Mulcahy Funeral Home, Central City where 
  vigil service will be held at 6 p.m.  Funeral Mass will be celebrated 
  at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady Queen of Angels Chapel.  Rev. Fr. Leonard 
  Voytek officiating.  Committal at St. John the Baptist Cemetery.
