(Labuda) Fern, 82, of John J. Kane Regional Center, Pittsburgh, formerly of Boswell, died Jan. 7, 1999, at the center. Born Sept. 14, 1916, in Windber. Daughter of Joseph and Mary (Gursky) Labuda. Preceded in death by parents; husband Charles L. Fern in 1985; daughter Anna Marie; son Henry "Junior" Umberger; and several brothers and sisters. Survived by these children: Bernadine Elersic of Central City; Patricia, wife of Glenn Gerney, Pittsburgh; John Umberger, Hooversville; Sandra Ann (Umberger) Reed, Johnstown, married to Franklin L. Reed; Grace Fern; James Fern and wife Barbara; Charles Fern and wife Shelby; Gloria, wife of Daniel Powell, all of Lorain, Ohio; and Barbara, wife of Milton Benny, Mechanicsburg. 20 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Sister of Anna Sprock and Raymond Labuda, both of Central City; Josephine Kramer, Stow, Ohio; and Marie Connolly, Bedminster, N.J. Member of the former St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Boswell. A cook at the former White Star Hotel, Jennerstown, and the Pine Grill Restaurant, Somerset. Friends will be received from noon to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Hoffman Funeral Home, Main Street, Boswell, where Vigil for the deceased will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday.
