    Charles L. Fern, 76, 135 West Sanner St., Somerset, formerly of 
  Boswell RD 1, died Dec. 30, 1985, at Somerset Community Hospital.  Born
  Nov. 28, 1909, in Jerome, son of Charles and Grace (Mason) Fern.  Preceded 
  in death by parents, two sisters and grandson, Randy Porter.  Survived 
  by widow, former Agnes (Labuda) Umberger and these children: Grace, 
  widow of Robert Porter, Lorraine, Ohio; Charles Fern, married to former 
  Shelby Brudette, LaGrange, Ohio; James Fern, married to former Barbara 
  Brada, Elyria, Ohio; Barbara, wife of the Rev. Milton Benny, Gaithersburg, 
  Md.; Gloria, wife of Daniel Powell, Elyria, Ohio; Bernadine, wife of 
  Edward Elersic, Central City; Henry Umberger, Somerset; Pat, wife of 
  Glenn Gerney, North Huntingdon; John Umberger, Stoystown; and Sandy, wife 
  of Franklin Reed, Friedens; also, 20 grandchildren and seven 
  great-grandchildren.  Brother of Robert, McAllen, Texas; Credwyn Anderson, 
  Melvindale, Mich.; and Maria Piazza, Lorraine, Ohio.  Member of St.
  Joseph's Catholic Church, Boswell, and U.S.W. of A.  Retired employee of 
  Freight Car Division, Johnstown Works, Bethlehem Steel Corporation.  Friends 
  received 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Hoffman Funeral 
  Home, Main Street, Boswell, where Wake service will be held at 8 p.m. 
  Wednesday.  Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph's 
  Church with the Rev. Samuel Tomaselli officiating.  Interment, Richland 
  Cemetery.
