Born June 18, 1919, in Milford Township. Son of John S. Ferner and Minnie Alice (Miller) Ferner Pletcher. Preceded in death by parents; stepfather, Jeremiah Pletcher; 2 foster sons, Dennis Bucy and Richard Claar; brother, Paul Ferner; sister, Anna Cramer; twin sister, Laura Ellen Thomas. Survived by wife, the former Ruby Leona Tinkey, to whom he was married 56 years on Dec. 7, 1997, and these children: Mrs. John W. (Ruth Ann) Neil and Mrs. James E. (Carol) Hange, both of Rockwood; foster children: Mrs. Linda Shaw of Yorktown, Va.; William Claar of Newport News, Va.; Gerald Claar of Johnstown; Mrs. Susie Bottomley of Rockwood; Dwayne Bucy of Mount Savage, Md.; 7 grandchildren: Shelley Waters, John W. Neil II, Michael Neil, Bethany Ross, Suzette Shaffer, James E. Hange Jr., Stacey Shaffer; foster grandson, David Bottomley. Brother of Mrs. Mary Geary of New Centerville. Stepbrother of Mrs. Elizabeth Close of Farmington; Mrs. Margaret Dunn of Morgantown, W. Va., and John Pletcher of Somerset. Lifetime member of Middlecreek Church of the Brethren. Coal miner and self-employed farmer. Groundskeeper and ski repairman for Seven Springs Mountain Resort for 37 years. Friends received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at the Hauger Zeigler Funeral Home, where services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, with the Rev. Gregory L. Gohn officiating.
