Ferre, 83, Boswell, died June 20, 2008, at Somerset Hospital. Born Dec. 1, 1924, in New Bethlehem, the son of Peter and Josephine (Chiappini) Ferre. Preceded in death by parents; first wife, the Former Betty Wilson; an infant son; son, Eugene Ferre; brothers, Mario "Frank", Donald "Joe" and Bertolo "Bert"; sisters, Mary Tonolini and Jennie Brunell-Underwood; and infant sister, Catherine. Survived by his wife of 60 years, the former Dorothy Miller; children, Connie Schutrick, Irwin; Paula, married to Richard Gracie, Boswell; Judy Ferre, Boswell; and Peter Ferre, Pittsburgh; nine grand- children; 21 great-grandchildren; and 10 great- great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Garnel Ferre, Boswell; and numerous nieces and nephews. A 1942 graduate of the former Boswell High School and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, where he served with the 153rd Engineer Regiment. A coal miner for 18 years before he became the owner and operator of the former Community Cleaners, Boswell. The first district magistrate of district 16-3-01, having served for 12 years. A member of all Saints Catholic Parish, where he served as Eucharist minister for many years. Also a member of the Boswell Area Historical Society. Recently honored as a 50-year member of the Boswell Post 461, American Legion and former member of the Boswell borough council. Viewing from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at The Hoffman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 409 Main St., Boswell, where vigil for the deceased will be held 3 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral Mass will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday at All Saints Church, Boswell. Monsignor Samuel J. Tomaselli, celebrant. Committal Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
