Fike was born near Meyersdale, Somerset County, Pennsylvania, February 12, 1847. He was one of the younger sons of John J. and Sally Miller Fike, and departed March 24, 1932, at the age of 85 years, 1 month and 12 days, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. S. P. Lehmer, in Los Angeles, California. His life was given to serve the Master at an early age and he was ordained to the ministry of the Church of the Brethren soon after and he devoted his life to the cause of Christ. In 1872 he and Eliza Flickinger were married and for eight years thereafter they united their efforts in serving the Meyersdale, Elk Lick and Greenville churches. Nine children were born to this union, six of whom survive to mourn the loss of a loving father. Three of the nine children died in infancy. They moved to Carleton, Nebraska, in the year 1887. He was one of the elders for twenty-three years in the Bethel Church of the Brethren, Carleton, Nebraska, at which place his family grew into the church under his leadership. The family moved to Los Angeles, California, in the year 1910, and a year later, during a visit to the East, his loving wife and companion passed away at the home of their daughter, Ada, at Morrill, Kansas. Of this family, there remain the following children: Elmer W., Roy C., Homer, Alta M., Mrs. Bertha E. Lehmer, all residing in Los Angeles, California, and Mrs. Ada P. Eisenbise residing at Morrill, Kansas, and one grandson, Kenneth F. Eisenbise, also residing in Los Angeles. One brother also survives him, Wilson Fike, residing at Hood River, Oregon. His services to the Master's work were foremost and his ability to quote the Word was through a consecrated reading of the Bible. A few days before his passing he requested the reading of a certain scripture, remarking at that time, that he had read his Bible thru 75 times. The late years of his life were devoted to mission work and during his extensive travels he also placed his church papers, bibles and testaments in the hands of many Sunday school scholars. He gave intense interest to foreign missions and even late in life expressed a wish to take the gospel to those in darkness and always gave generously to this cause. Appreciation of the devotion and love he gave to his children was manifested in the untiring efforts of each one during his last illness in the comfort and care given him. All were present as the book of Daddy's life came to a close and with a smile and a nod, his spirit passed on, as if he said, "It is finished," leaving the loving memories to cherish and guide the lives of those whom he loved to guide in their life's work. Funeral services were held March 26, 1932, with burial in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Meyersdale Republican, April 21, 1932 ------ DANIEL M. FIKE Elder Jacob W.
