Fike, who was killed while fighting on Leyte Island in the Philippines, arrived in Meyersdale Tuesday, August 31, at noon, for reburial in Union Cemetery Thursday at 2 o'clock. Cpl. Fike was the son of Bruce and Emma Klingaman Fike of Meyersdale, R.D. 3. He was a graduate of Meyersdale High School and entered service in January, 1942, and was assigned to the Army Air Corps. He went overseas in May, 1943, and was stationed with a ground crew in New Guinea before taking part in the Leyte campaign where he met his death November 12, 1944. He was 27 years of age. He is survived by his parents and the following brothers and sisters: Ray Fike, Meyersdale; Mrs. George Paulson, Orlando, Fla.; Mrs. Calvin Price, Silver Spring, Md.; and Bruce Fike, Mechanicsburg. Cpl. Fike was a member of the Church of the Brethren. Funeral services were held this (Thursday) afternoon at the Konhaus funeral chapel, Rev. H. K. Hilner officiating. Full military rites were conducted by John C. Tressler Post 3504, VFW, and Charles E. Kelly Post 112, American Legion. Meyersdale Republican, September 2, 1948
