Fike died at the family home at Elizabethtown, Pa., Thursday, June 19, 1930, in the 49th year of his age. He was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Peter Fike, well known by many Meyersdale people by reason of their frequent visits to the home of their relatives, Dr. and Mrs. J. W. Wenzel. Mr. Fike had suffered for a number of years from high blood pressure, but the direct cause of his death was due to acute dilation of the heart. Mr. Fike was born at Eglon, W.Va., where he resided until about seven years ago, when he removed to Elizabethtown. At Eglon for a number of years, he operated a combined grist mill, planing-mill and saw-mill and, being an expert mechanic, was quite prosperous. Ill health, however, compelled him to give up these lines of industry, afterward working at day labor, when he was able. He was twice married, first to a sister of the late Mahlon Miller, formerly of Grant Street, this city, and later to Miss Vera Van Meter, of Thomas, W.Va. One child, Mrs. Ray Beeghley, from the first union, survives, also the wife and three children from the second marriage - Frederick, Blaine and Lucille. One brother, Jesse Fike, of Easton, Md., and the following sisters, also survive - Mrs. Seymour Hamstead, residing in the State of Delaware; Mrs. George Hamstead and Mrs. Roy Feaster, Eglon, W.Va., and Mrs. J. W. Wenzel, Meyersdale. Funeral services were held last Saturday at the late home of the deceased and were conducted by the pastor of the Elizabethtown Church of the Brethren, of which he was a faithful and devoted member. Interment in the City Cemetery. Several weeks ago Dr. Wenzel and son Carlton visited their sick relative. Those from here who attended the funeral were Mrs. J. W. Wenzel, Carlton Wenzel and Doretha Wenzel. The deceased's son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Beeghley, of Eglon, W.Va., accompanied the Wenzel's from here. Meyersdale Republican, June 26, 1930
