Donald Finzel 74, of 107 Grant St., Salisbury, died Oct. 18, 2003 at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Hospital, Johnstown. Born Jan. 18, 1929 in Meyersdale, a son of the late Howard William and Alberta Marie (Bolden) Finzel. Preceded in death by two brothers, Paul and Bernard and two sisters, Irene Baker and Pearl Eisler. Survived by three sons, James and Rodney Finzel, both of Salisbury, Steven Finzel, Stephens City, Va.; his former wife, Gwen Winters, Eckhart, Md.; one brother, Stanley Finzel, Grantsville, Md.; four sisters, Dorothy Lotz, Rhoda Byrd and Leota "Bake" Christner, all of Frostburg, Md.; Patsy Mikesell, Derry; six grandchildren; and his dear friend Ruth Stone, Salisbury. Retired from the U.S. Navy after 20 years service as a Chief Petty Officer. Member of the Salisbury VFW, Salisbury American Legion, Meyersdale Moose Lodge and the Policemen's Association. Was of the Catholic faith. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Newman Funeral Home, Inc., 9168 Mason-Dixon Highway, Salisbury. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Michael's Church, West Salisbury. The Rev. Albert Anselmi officiating. Interment will be in the Finzel Cemetery, Finzel, Md. Military graveside rites will be accorded by the VFW and American Legion. A Christian Wake service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
